How Can Beginners Start in Affiliate Marketing in 2020?

Affiliate marketing is a performance-based internet marketing and is still one of the best ways to earn some income online. That is why a lot of people want to try it for themselves as it is definitely one of the most legitimate ways of earning money.

Because there are so many changes since its inception, how can new affiliate marketers start their careers in this industry? Read on to find out?

What is Affiliate Marketing?

Before anything else, I want to define what affiliate marketing is. Affiliate marketing is a form of digital marketing where you, the affiliate, will be promoting products from your partner companies by way of creating content.

You do not sell a product, per se, but your main job is to gain as much internet traffic as possible so that you can refer people to your partners’ product websites.
It is a performance-based internet marketing scheme simply because your success (and how much money you will earn) will be dependent upon the time and effort that you put into this.

For the most part, you will be given commissions for every sale of the product that your partners are selling. However, there are some programs that will allow you to gain commissions even by just referring people to them.

How to Get Started

Now that you know what affiliate marketing is, it is now time for me to run you through the most basic steps. Here are the things that you need to do to get started:

Begin by Starting Your Own Platform

As an affiliate marketing, your primary job is to drive as much traffic to your website and your partners’ product pages. To do that, you will have to create content that is valuable to your target audience. You will have to have your own platform for this.

By platform, I mean your main base of operations. It can be a blog, a Youtube channel, or a website. Typically, people go for blogs as it is easy to write content, but since it is 2020, influencer marketing is a huge deal in this day and age.

So, you should not only think like an affiliate but you also need to act like an influencer as well.

Create Your Own Content Strategy

If you want guaranteed success in this industry, you must always plan things accordingly and stick to the schedule.

Your content strategy should include what types of content you should make, how often should you make it, and your goals every month and every week.

Having a more systematic approach will allow you to pinpoint certain problem areas as they arise. Never wing it.

Use Analytics Tools to Find Out Your Metrics

One of the things that separate the professional marketers from people with little to no success is that the former always use analytics tools.

The reason why you want to use such programs is to help you find out if there are things that you need to improve on.

For example, after two months since you started, you’ve found out that your website’s bounce rate is higher than expected. If that is the case, you’d want to change some things on your page to ensure that everything is in working order.
